Baby Jesus

Be it Unto Me by Liz Lemon Swindle

Millions of babies are born every year, many of them under worse circumstances than were Jesus. Yet, here you are, drawn to this particular birth, along with billions of others. Why do you think that is? Please make this experiment of thought with me;

If Jesus never existed in any form before that sacred night some two thousand years ago - and that he totally ceased to be 33 years later - would there be anything special with his birth, life and death? Wouldn't that mean that he was just an ordinary man, who was born by happenstance in Bethlehem? If so - he did not choose to offer himself a sacrifice for sin to answer the ends of the law unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit?

But if he lived before he was born, and if he made a deliberate choice to be born, there, in Bethlehem, and to live with, and love, a people who would persecute him, and in the end kill him; wouldn't that make us want to investigate Him closer? And if he arose from the dead, and ascended to his Royal Courts from whence he came, then wouldn't his birth, his childhood, his life, yes; everything about him be of the greatest importance and interest!

 Wouldn't that mean that God was actually upon the earth for 33 years, and made himself known! Is that why you, and billion others, are drawn to the birth of this particular child?
