God Answers Prayers

Does God Answer Prayers?

The only honest answer to that question is; Yes!

Of course, God answers prayers, but whether or not he will answer your prayers the way you expects him to - depends on a few things that I do not know about you and your prayers.

There are prayers that are not wise to pray. For example; to ask for things that is contrary to God’s laws and commandments. Let me give you an example; God has told us that we should not covet nor lust after another man’s wife. Obviously it is foolish to ask God if that law really applies to me too, in my particular circumstance. God has given the commandments and they apply to us all! There is never a time when we should ask God if it’s ok to make a graven image to worship. When the answers are given beforehand, in the form of commandments - laws and instructions from God - this closes the door for further asking on the matter.

We must pray in faith, assuming that we will be answered. In the book of James, chapter 1, he explains that the person who doubts shall not think that s/he would receive anything from God.

The prayer must be for a genuine need, not for a carnal whish. God does not favor one football club over another, nor does he think it important for man to have a Mercedes Benz.

The prayer must not be an infringement upon the free agency and liberty of another. So, asking God to make this beautiful woman love me is probably not a prayer that will have high priority with God.

The prayer must not be contrary to the plan that God has for us or someone else. We might not know that plan, but God never loses sight of the purpose of all things.

The prayer must be offered with a sincere heart and real intent. If we ask for things that he knows we will not value, giving it to us will but add to our condemnation.

As you can see, it is impossible to say whether or not God answers prayers from your lips the way you expect him to.

But, God answers prayers, always, when answering them is to the benefit of individuals or a people. He listens to the pleas for daily bread, health, protection, wisdom, understanding, education, unity, charity, faithfulness etc.

There are millions of people whose lives have changed after they have had their prayers answered (and I am one of them). In receiving answers to our prayers lies the true happiness of knowing that God is aware of me and my needs; that among billions of people I am important enough for him to communicate with. Nothing can fill a soul with greater sense of worth, knowing that one is an object for the love of none other than God Almighty.
