The scriptures use the term 'heaven' about the atmosphere that surrounds
the earth on which we live. At the beginning of the millennium there
will be "new heavens” (and a new earth) (Isaiah
65:17).
In a broader sense, heaven, the area
surrounding our globe, is including the immensity of space. Thus we find frequent reference to the stars of
the heaven (Genesis 22:17), and also
such inspired statements as: "The heavens declare the glory of God; and
the firmament sheweth his handywork"
(Psalms 19:1).
Obviously, the place where God dwells is heaven, since he is our Father in
Heaven (Matthew 6:9). All men, being his spirit offspring as spirits, came
down from heaven when their earth lives began (John
6:38). There was a "war in heaven" (Revelations
12:7-9) when Lucifer and a third part of the hosts of heaven rebelled,
were cast out, and did "as lightning fall from heaven" (Luke 10:18).
Paradise may be said to be heaven in the sense that heaven is a place of peace, rest, and solace where the
righteous go at death (Luke
16:19-31). Paradise is not heaven, however, in the sense of
being the final and eternal dwelling-place of the righteous. Those who are in
paradise are waiting for the day of resurrection, when they will be assigned to
a mansion of glory in the eternal world.
In its most important sense,
heaven is the very kingdom of God. This is the sense in which
it is used by prophets and other inspired men when they teach the doctrines of
salvation and exhort their fellow men to follow the laws whereby men might show
their desire for salvation. No unclean thing can enter into the presence of God. So, it will not be possible for anyone to be
saved in their sins, by Jesus, or
any-one else!
The only way to enter is to
have been saved from ones sins! This can only happen is that person
deeply regrets his actions, and turns unto the Savior with a broken heart and a
contrite spirit. If the Lord sees that the repentant soul has the determination
to be obedient to his commandments from that moment on, he will save him/her, and
make them ready for entrance into His kingdom
