Jesus Healing the Sick
Jesus healing the
sick. The scriptural records of Jesus’ mortal
existence and teachings are replete with references to His unparalleled power
to heal all kinds of sickness. The Gospels log more than 20 times of Jesus making
the sick well: From curing the nobleman’s boy at Capernaum (see -John 4:46-53) to putting back
the cut off ear of Malchus, servant of the high
priest (see -Luke 22:50-51; John 18:10).
Jesus healing the
infirm of body and soul. Christ’s healing powers reached outside
the curing of persons with bodily imperfections to include “all manner of
disease among the people” (Matthew 4:23; emphasis added). Jesus, in His endless
charity, cured not just individuals with bodily imperfections but in addition such
whose illnesses were mental or emotional.
Jesus healing the sick is part of his salvation. These healings are an integrated element of the salvation of Jesus
Christ. It is so powerful - so all inclusive in its scope and reach - that it by
no means merely pays the cost for sin but in addition will heal each mortal
affliction. He who went forth suffering pains and afflictions of every kind so
that He might know completely how to relieve His people; He who took the
incomprehensible weight of the sins of all who belong to the family of Adam, in
like manner offers His healing power to all, regardless of the cause of their
affliction. “With his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
Why did Jesus Perform Miracles? Was it
kindness alone or did it
serve any other purpose?
