The Great Apostasy
The Great Apostasy. Perhaps the greatest tragedy in history
(second only to the killing of Jesus) might just be that the perfect
organization, the perfect doctrines, and the perfect conduit through which to
receive further light and knowledge from God, was erased through the killing of
the anointed ones, and by filling their seats with emperors, popes and
cardinals!
Whatever
the Apostles bound, sealed, loosed, blessed or cursed on earth would have binding
force in heaven (Matthew 16:19). They also had the power
to convey these keys of authority to new apostles, so as to maintain twelve men
in that quorum. But, unfortunately, the Apostles were killed of quite rapidly,
and it becomes quite clear that those who claim to have their authority from Peter,
since the time of the Apostles, never received any revelations from our Lord at
all! The great apostasy was a fact!
The
Great Apostasy was foretold from the very beginning;
9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at
noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning,
and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all
loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an
only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11 Behold, the days come,
saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the
land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words
of the LORD:
12 And they shall wander
from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro
to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. (Amos 8:9-12)
Let me explain the prophecy of Amos;
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at
noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: The sun that would give light to everyone (who does
not hide from it) represents the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. One
would expect the sun to have its full course, not to stop shining at noon! So it
was with the fullness of the gospel – One would expect it to keep giving its light, until its purposes was fulfilled, but shortly after it began to shine forth it was discontinued!
And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will
bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will
make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter
day. And as
a result – every-one who would want to live their life in the splendor of the gospel, would just find sorrow and despair, since the precepts of men had
covered the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ in sack-cloth,
or hidden it behind mysticism, Latin Bibles that very few could find joy in, and
the synical manmade doctrines preached by popes,
cardinals and priests. Preached - not to give light and joy - but to rule and
control!
Behold, the days come, saith
the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor
a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander
from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro
to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. A famine will strike the
good as well as the bad, the honest as well as the dishonest. None – none would
be able to “eat” the truth of the gospel. A far reaching suffering and darkness would
result. No matter where the pure of heart would turn to find the living Church
with the living word, they would not find it! This is the great apostacy that came to pass as the Apostles were killed, and
were replaced by people seeking power instead of the glory of God.
Also the
Apostles foretold the Great Apostasy;
1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming
of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be
troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that
day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of
sin be revealed, the son of perdition; (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3)
What did Paul write to the saints in Thessalonica?
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of
our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, Here Paul demands the attention as
he is about to reveal something very important concerning the returning of
Jesus Christ.
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be
troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. He is now telling them to stop being
stirred up, becoming excited, or perhaps even being worried, about the imminent
return of Jesus. Whatever they hear, whatever they read, whatever rumor they
pick up on; and even if they receive a letter from the Apostles themselves:
Stay calm!
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that
day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of
sin be revealed, the son of perdition; There you have it! “That day shall not come, except there come a
falling away first”! That “falling away” - that had to occur before the
second coming of Jesus - was the great apostasy, described earlier on this
page. There are many passages in the Bible which prophecies of this terrible
event.
You have witnessed and
heard about the effects of the great apostasy! Would Jesus instigate the office of
“pope” or “cardinals”? Would Jesus command the inquisition? Would He command
the burning of women at the stake? Would He instigate the selling of
forgiveness of sins for money? Would He limit the reading of his words to just
the very few who knew Latin? Would He command the conversion of strangers by
bloodshed? I really could go on like this forever, giving irrefutable evidence
that there was a great apostasy, which indeed led to a famine in the land to
hear the word of God. And, finally, would Jesus, who was baptized at an age of
accountability, by being lowered completely into the Jordan
river, (“for there was much water there”
(John 3:23)), change the ordinance so as to baptize infants and baptize through
the sprinkling of little water? Would Jesus command the altering of the
ordinance through which the Holy Ghost was given, from the laying on of hands - to a
great big… nothing!?
5 The earth also is defiled under the
inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the
ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth,
and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the
earth are burned, and few men left. (Isaiah 25:5-6)
Look at the events that followed upon the death of Jesus and
the Apostles; do not the events of the world, in the post-apostolic centuries, match the prophecies of the great apostasy (which was to precede the second coming of Christ) perfectly? Email
me if you want to see more scripture which supports the propheies about this dreadful
falling away, and I will send it to you.
