Jesus is the Light and
Life of the World. How can this be
possible, considering that the world do not recognize him as such, let alone let him be their light? Let us look for
the answer in the first chapter of John. John uses the phrase “the Word”
instead of “Jehovah”, which was a name forbidden to repeat in the Jewish
community, and Jehovah is the name of Jesus in the eternal worlds;
1 IN the
beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word (Jesus) was with God, and the Word
(Jesus) was God.
2 The same (Jesus) was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him (Jesus); and without him (Jesus)
was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him (Jesus)
was life; and the life was the light of men. (John 1:1-4) (Parentheses
added)
All Life Is Upheld By
One of the Powers of Christ. What does it mean, that “in him was life”
(v.4)? Some of the things it means are:
- Jesus had life in
himself, indicating that he has always existed.
- Everything living
on earth has been given this life by Jesus.
- Vested in Jesus
rests the power of life.
- All life is
sustained by the life-giving properties of Jesus.
- In Jesus is the
hope of Eternal Life.
- In Jesus is the
promise of immortality.
By which power does Jesus give and sustain life for all living?
This brings us straight to “the Light of men”.
The Light of Christ
Upholds Life and the Circle of Life. The Light of Christ is
the all governing law that, among many other things, maintains life. That light
is the governing law that gives life and order to all things on earth and in
the universe. Everything that Jesus has not touched with this Light
of Life exists in absolute darkness and chaos. No man has ever seen such a
place. As soon as the Light of Jesus touches any matter in any space, it is
filled with a form of life (or light, if you will) which makes it obey the laws
of nature. Without such light (or life), planets would not have orbits, the
earth would not benefit from the sun, electrons would not surround the nucleus
of the atom, hearts would not beat, in short, chaos would rule.
5 And the light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not. (John 1:5)
Before the light of governing law was given, the darkness of
unorganized death was prevalent. But the Word, Even Jesus Christ, commanded; Be there light. And he saw that the light was good. That
light did not come from the sun, nor the stars. They
were created later. No, the light that Jehovah commanded to break the darkness
came from him, since he is the light and life of the world. But as soon as man
was born to earth, having forgotten the darkness that was before Jehovah spoke,
he would not, will not, accept that
light and life that is “the Word”.
Every Human Being Is
Given a Portion of Jesus’ Light. Below John gives us some more,
stunningly important information. Not only do men receive life through the
Light of Christ, which is the governing law of the universe. Here John the
Beloved tells us that John the Baptist was testifying that every person who
will ever live on this earth have received a portion of that governing light of
Christ;
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John (the
Baptist).
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light (Jesus),
that all men through him (Jesus), might believe.
8 He (John the Baptist) was not that Light (Jesus), but was sent
to bear witness of that Light (Jesus).
9 That (Jesus) was the true Light, which lighteth
every man that cometh into the world. (John 1:6-9) (Parentheses added)
How wonderful! It is given unto every man to know good from evil, so that every person can be held accountable
for her actions in the judgment. If this portion of the Light of Christ would
not have been given unto men, everyone would be absolutely innocent of all
their deeds, good or bad.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do
good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (James 4:17)
Using that scripture inverted, it becomes clear that he that
knows not to do good,
and doeth it not, to him it is not sin.
It is wonderful to see the Holy Scriptures come together in perfect harmony,
proving the doctrine of Jesus, as taught by Him and by
his prophets and apostles. Let us end this page by reading the beautiful
testimony of John the Baptist that he bore of the
Word, Jehovah, yea, even Jesus the Christ.
10 He (Jesus) was in the world, and the world was made by him (Jesus),
and the world knew him (Jesus) not.
11 He (Jesus) came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become
the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (Jesus):
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh,
nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word (Jesus) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and
we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of
grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him (Jesus), and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He
that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for
grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but
grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:10-17) (Parentheses added)
